The History Of Mars Supply

Mars was founded in 1924 as the W.P. & R.S. Mars Company. Its mission at the time was to service the emerging iron mining and timber industries in Northern Minnesota. Bill and Bob Mars Sr. built the company around the philosophy of “finding solutions” and adding a “personal touch.” In 2017, the company rebranded itself as Mars Supply. But even though the name changed and the market served and customer base has expanded, the same business philosophy holds true today as the fifth generation of Mars family members take an active role in personally making sure the company takes good care of our customers.

In 1953, Bill Mars founded Conveyor Belt Service, Inc. (CBS); which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mars Supply. CBS repairs, installs and services heavy conveyor belts that are found in mining companies and coal-fired power plants around the nation and even the world. Its belt technicians also repair conveyors for Great Lakes shipping facilities and cargo carrying vessels. 

Mars acquired the Walter R. Hammond Co. in 2013 and Machine Tool Supply in 2020.  With the addition of a satellite branch in Winona, Mars Supply offers three locations to serve you.  With this expanded footprint, the company is poised to sustain the region with large local inventory, value-added services and experienced employees.
