3M™ diamond wheel 686HN is a special hybrid bond diamond wheel used for grinding primary and secondary relief angles on round tools made of tungsten carbide. This highly engineered wheel offers the excellent form retention and long wheel life which is ideal for long production runs where tighter control on tolerances are required. A cut Above: shaping your cutting tools when it comes to using cutting tools - tool or drill bits, milling cutters or reamers - operators expect the best. Yet, these tools are preceded by other tools and that's where 3M™ diamond wheel 686HN comes in. 3M™ diamond wheel 686HN was designed for high performance primary and secondary relief grinding. This process is used in the production and sharpening of cutting tools. Cutting edges are typically "relieved" to enhance chip clearance. Primary relief involves removing material directly behind the cutting edge. For secondary relief, as light bevel is ground next to the primary relief. Diamond mineral is anchored to 3M™ diamond wheel 686HN using a hybrid bond: a combination of polyimide resin and metal bond materials. Metal bonds are strong, durable and well known for their ability to hold form. Polyimide bonds provide thermal stability during high temperature grinding operations without sacrificing cut rate. Together, these bonds improve the wheel's ability to hold form and retain cut rates during aggressive grinding conditions. 3M™ provides a broad portfolio of super abrasive wheels used for your round tool relief and clearance angle applications. From short runs and re-sharpening to "lights-out" and long production runs, 3M™ has the wheel design to meet your needs.
